FAQ
1. What are the steps in the portrait commission process?
The first step - First Consultation Meeting
After the first meeting is scheduled, then Meghan will speak via phone or zoom with the prospective client for an one hour meeting to learn more about the vision for the project and plan the portrait process. Upon confirmation of the project's vision and details, the portrait commission begins with a signed contract and a deposit of 50% of the total portrait fee. The signed contract secures a place on Meghan's commission calendar.
The second step - Photoshoot
A photoshoot session will be scheduled at a specific location/date/time. Following the photoshoot, Meghan will edit and format photos. Within 1-2 weeks, she will send 5-10 photos for the client to review. She will then work with the client to select the best photo for the vision and aim of the project.
The third step - Preliminary Study
Once the photo reference has been selected, Meghan will begin a preliminary drawing study on paper of the project. The study will be submitted to the client to finalize the overall vision of the portrait commission going forward.
The fourth step - Final Project
When the portrait commission is completed, Meghan will submit the final drawing/painting for review. Upon approval of the final portrait, the client will provide payment of the remaining 50% of the commission fee. The portrait will then be delivered to your home for a lifetime to enjoy!
2. How long does it take to complete a portrait commission?
Once a client signs the contract for the portrait commission, they will receive the next open start date on Meghan's commission calendar. To give total attention to all portraits, Meghan only completes one commission at a time, each of which requires a minimum of two months.
3. How does the portrait process work? Does the client provide the photo?
In order to best convey the message of the portrait, Meghan prefers to take the photos herself. After the photoshoot, she will provide 5-10 edited photos from which the client and together they will choose the best photo reference to use for the commission. In some cases, if a photo provided by the client is acceptable to use for the portrait, the client's photo may be used as a reference instead of taking new photos. Some photos serve as references for great paintings, others are better remembered as photographed memories, so Meghan may choose to take new photos of the subject instead.
4. Can you draw/paint more than one person in a portrait?
Meghan can draw/paint more than one person in a portrait upon request. For each additional person in the portrait, 50% of commission fee will be added to the initial fee. For each additional pet in the portrait, 25% of the commission fee will be added to the initial fee.
5. What are your prices?
The commission fee begins at $250 for individual portrait drawings and $750 for individual portrait oil paintings. Please note that the of addition of more people and/or pets within a portrait will affect the overall price.
